Health Information Exchange for Southern California
I had the privilege of attending a meeting with my colleagues from Orange County, Riverside and more than 20 healthcare leaders on the topic of a Southern California Health Information Exchange (HIE). The purpose was to discuss how providers, health plans, electronic health records, hospitals, clinics and other stakeholders can create a sustainable, integrated and highly utilized HIE. Population health and social determinants of health along with access and workforce, care coordination, behavioral health are topics that show traction. As I learn more, I will share with membership progress and outcomes.

More Concerning Legislation on the Horizon
I also met with Dr. David Aizuss, President-Elect of the CMA, and new Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel, 45th State Assembly district representing west San Fernando Valley. Dr Aizuss shared several bills that could impact physicians directly, including SB 1238 (Roth), which would increase provider administrative burdens for minimal benefit to patients by requiring providers to send patient notices to their last known address and email within 60 days of destroying an individual's medical records.SB 1238 passed the Assembly Health Committee and is currently located in the Assembly Appropriations Committee. Take action here.

I would like to thank Dr. Aizuss for his leadership and Assemblymember Gabriel for his desire to support reasonable legislation that won't adversely impact physicians.

New and Updated Resources for Members

Today, the California Medical Association (CMA) launched the next generation of their website, CMAdocs.org, a powerful engagement tool to provide members with innovative resources for an ever-changing health care landscape.

Enhanced website features include new discussion forums and a "My CMA" section that empowers members to customize their news, subscribe to newsletters, join discussion forums, help create new policy, take political action, and save their downloads and purchases in one place.

The website provides new interactive tools to enhance your experience and drives member engagement by featuring modern design, clear navigation and improved search – and it works on any mobile device.

I encourage all members to visit the newly designed website and take advantage of the informative resources to maximize your membership experience. Should you need more information or assistance, please email communications@cmadocs.org.

With our Deepest Sympathies

I am sad to learn of the passing of a long-time LACMA  member, Dr. Charles Resnick. He passed away on June 14th at The Huntington Hospital after losing his battle with adrenal cell carcinoma

Dr. Resnick was an orthopedic hand surgeon and first joined LACMA and CMA in 1984. He started in private practice in 1982 and was appointed the medical staff at Huntington Memorial Hospital in 1997.

Dr. Resnick graduated from USC's Keck School of Medicine in 1977 and did both his internship and residency at LAC-USC Medical Center and completed a fellowship at the Joseph H. Boyes Foundation in 1983. He was an active member, having served on the LACMA delegation to the CMA, and advocate for organized medicine.

Dr. Resnick was loved by his patients and will be greatly missed.  If you would like to send a note or be in contact with his family, please let me know.

Calling on Physicians in Private Practice
LACMA's preferred partner, Paragon Private Health is interested in knowing if you are curious about converting to a concierge medicine model.

If you have ever wanted to learn more about the impact a concierge medicine model will have on your practice and patients, you should join us on August 29th in Santa Monica for a special program and meet n greet with Paragon Private Health.

Converting to a concierge model of care has helped countless independent physicians restore doctor patient relationships and improve income. Due to Paragon's tailored, data-driven, and hands-on approach; they have successfully helped many physicians around the country implement concierge medicine programs… even those who had ruled it out in the past.
