Welcome Back!

I hope our members had a restful holiday weekend.

Yesterday, the World Health Organization (WHO) listed burnout as a medical condition adding it to the International Classification of Diseases, or ICD-11 handbook that guides medical providers in diagnosing diseases. What was striking to me is that there was no mention of how burnout affects the medical community, specifically the physicians that provide care to patients facing this condition. CMA and LACMA are working together to address physician burnout and this topic will be front and center at the first-ever symposium in early Summer in Northern California where a number of chief wellness officers from Los Angeles will be attending and later, in August, CMA/LACMA will host a groundbreaking roundtable on the subject.

Partner Spotlight: ACap’s Webinar is Tomorrow!

We are excited for ACap Advisors and Accountants to host their first LACMA member focused webinar tomorrow (May 29th) at 11AM PST. Ara Oghoorian, Founder and President of ACap, will be discussing ways to take advantage of the recent tax reform to minimize tax liability. New IRS regulations made significant changes that may allow owners of rental real estate properties to qualify for the generous 20% Qualified Business Income Deduction. The new rules also bring clarity to an area of taxation that has long been opaque and difficult to understand. We encourage you to register for this webinar and you can also catch Ara on "Your Money" with Kent Smetters, powered by The Wharton School, today at 2:15PM PST on Sirius XM station 132: https://www.siriusxm.com/businessradio.

New Partners Alert

This week, LACMA will be launching a new partnership with Business Resources Group, whose mission is to promote equitable access to capital, growth opportunities and economic well-being for small businesses. BRG helps small medical practices get the incentives and rebates they are entitled to. With large companies routinely taking advantage of all the incentives & rebated, BRG will help educate our members about the different types of incentives that are available from the federal, state and local agencies. I will share more specifics relative to case studies and contact information next week. We are also in discussions with LibertyID (identity theft experts), CARR Real Estate (only work with physicians), Avery Health Appraisals (practice appraisal) and Bank of America Practice Solutions.

Head Over to the Marketplace

We are still making adjustments to the newly launched LACMA Marketplace located at https://lacmamarketplace.com/login.phpRemember to enter your pin number to take advantage of great discounts including vaccines, supplies and much more. The pin is LAMKPL0519. I am also excited to share our partnership with the Los Angeles Pediatric Society (Dr. Patrick Whelan) and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Dr. Tony Kuo) who have joined LACMA’s president-elect Dr. Sion Roy and I in our fight against e-cigarette use amongst adolescents. The “Clear Lungs, Clear Minds” Campaign will involve various agencies, Los Angeles Unified School District, non-profits across Los Angeles County as well as the LA Olympic Committee and Verizon to educate kids, parents, schools, policy makers and media about this public health epidemic.  Stay tuned for more details.
