On Thursday, June 21st , with almost 250 guests in attendance, Dr. C. Freeman was sworn in as LACMA's first African American and African American female President at the Casa Del Mar Hotel in Santa Monica.

Dr. Thomas Freeman, the famed educator and orator from Houston, Texas, and C. Freeman's Father, delivered the evening's invocation. Senator Holly Mitchell, representing the 30th Senate District, played a special role as the keynote speaker, welcoming Dr. Freeman and LACMA's new officers: Dr. Sion Roy, President-Elect, Dr. Diana Shiba, Treasurer, Dr. Jeffery Lee, Secretary and Dr. William K. Averill, Immediate Past President.

Several surprise awards were presented to Dr. Freeman throughout the evening, recognizing her outstanding contributions to medicine. Dr. Othella Owens, a Board Member from CAP, the evening's Platinum Sponsor, honored Dr. Freeman for being a long-time CAP member and congratulated her on her historic new role.

The evening was full of applause, accolades, support and enthusiasm surrounding Dr. Freeman's presidency. As we continue to celebrate Dr. Freeman's historic moment, LACMA is excited to usher in a new era under her visionary leadership serving LA County's physicians, residents, student and medical community at large.
