Monday Rx | June 11th, 2018 | National ACO June 19th Deadline Quickly Approaching June 12, 2018 membership, Monday RX 1174 National ACO June 19th Deadline Quickly Approaching One of my priorities at LACMA is to help members ensure that the business demands of running a private practice do not overshadow the original model of the medical profession — healing patients and keeping our communities healthy. Every day, we are finding solutions to provide physicians with a direct connection to the resources they need to sustain a private practice, provide excellent care to their patients, and maintain well-being in their personal lives. In April, LACMA entered into an innovative partnership with National ACO (NACO), a Next Generation Accountable Care Organization that helps physicians improve patient care and remain independent. NACO enables physicians to participate in CMS savings, increase their patient visits and thrive in the risk-sharing population-based payment healthcare market that CMS now requires to be implemented over the next few years for Medicare beneficiaries. JUNE 19TH DEADLINE LOOMING FOR INTERESTED PARTICIPANTS The deadline is a CMS requirement for NACO to send a list for potential providers to participate in the upcoming Performance Year (PY) 2019. During this time, CMS will check provider eligibility on PECOS and CMS integrity lists. Additionally, CMS will review the providers' billing and coding data to determine a preliminary attribution patient list for PY 2019. NACO is designed by independent physicians for independent physicians. They share up to 80% of the cost savings generated with participating physicians. Once a provider is enrolled, the NACO Provider Engagement Team begins a process of training, systems integration, and alignment that drives down the cost of care while improving access and quality, and adding accountability for care. Since NACO is a performance-based ACO, it selects physicians who participate through IPAs, medical groups, and associations. LACMA/CMA provides organizational oversight and value-added services that enhance quality performance through the Next Gen ACO Model of care. NACO's Benefits NACO's model is perfectly aligned with LACMA's goal to support independent physicians and is positioned to work with private practitioners to offer the following associated benefit enhancements: Telehealth services and other electronic or mobile utilities to manage care Opportunities to utilize a waiver for skilled nursing facility admission without a mandated 3-day hospital stay Post-discharge home visits by qualified providers and clinicians following hospital stays A larger pool of preferred physicians, facilities, specialists, and home health agencies Administrative, financial and operational services Customized DATA and analytics IT resources Population-health management Care coordination Consulting services NACO provides a platform for independent physicians to practice medicine in the current regulatory environment in a way that generates savings for the system, higher revenues for the physicians and better outcomes for the patient. As healthcare shifts to value based care, NACO helps practitioners stay compliant and generate additional savings - without the need to lose the freedom to operate in their own independent ways.
