Dr. Roy's Statement on Governor Gavin Newsom's Executive Order: Wear a Mask. Save a Life. June 18, 2020 California, COVID-19, Dr. Roy, Executive Order, Public Health 1607 LACMA wholeheartedly supports Governor Newsom’s call for Californians to wear masks. Wearing face coverings in public slows the spread of COVID-19 and saves lives. The Governor’s action today sends a clear message to Californians that wearing face coverings in public is an important public safety measure that will slow the transmission of the coronavirus, and make it more likely our state can stay on a path toward reopening. In fact, the Executive Order clearly provides needed support and protection for local public health officers who face misinformed opposition while some have even come under attack for simply following science and facts to protect public health. LACMA stands behind public health officers as the jobs they perform are critical work in a historic time to help communities be safe and well. As we stated last week, LACMA will continue to stand up to those who disavow science and try to mislead the public and harass local health officers for their own cynical political ends. The COVID-19 crisis has not subsided. LACMA will continue to work closely with our local public health officer, state and local responses to this pandemic and support public officials at the state and local levels who are doing everything they can to keep Californians and Los Angelenos safe. This order offers clear, consistent guidance for all Californians to ensure we all do our part to slow the spread of COVID-19. Wear a mask. Save a life.
