Physician Wellness is a Priority for LACMA, What About You?

LACMA recently launched the Well Being Index, a simple 5-minute survey tool to better understand physician wellness. The assessment is 100% confidential and will enable us to build resources to support our members in a post-pandemic world. After the initial rollout, only a handful of members participated. I encourage members to participate and take advantage of the tools, services, and partners to help all our members. Click here for the link. Use the invitation code: LACMA WELLNESS

One such partner is Gentem, which is hosting a webinar this week with Dr. Brent Lacey, founder of Scope of Practice blog/podcast focused on physician and practice finance.

The webinar is called "Smart Strategies for Building a Successful Clinical Practice". Dr. Lacey will cover key aspects of optimizing a clinical practice for success, where strategies should focus and why and how to evaluate and manage your most important resources.

COVID-19 and Vaccine Update

In just six months, the US has vaccinated over half its adult population, a remarkable feat considering how much we seemed to lag other countries in controlling the virus last year. But it is important to remember that most vaccines have gone to wealthier nations, and just 12 countries have immunized over 20% of their population.

Lower- and middle-income countries continue to face limited vaccine access, even as outbreaks surge in some regions of the world, particularly in parts of Asia and South America. Slower vaccinations = slower recoveries, which threaten a global economic rebound. While the US is finally starting to share those much-needed vaccines, the gulf separating wealthy and less wealthy countries looks wider than ever.

Locally, there were 174 cases reported in the past 24 hours and five deaths. This is compared to over 1.2M cases and more than 24,000 deaths overall in Los Angeles County. The encouraging news is that half of Los Angeles County residents 16 and older are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, an encouraging milestone as the region — along with the rest of California — starts to reopen. Current hospitalizations are at 261. The state of California continues to drive vaccination rates and has launched the Vax for the Win incentive program which gives vaccinated Californians a chance to win up to $1.5 million and the next 2 million Californians to start and complete their vaccination will also get a $50 card.

Virtual Grand Rounds: Ethics in a Pandemic and the State of COVID-19 in California

In this Virtual Grand Rounds, we will hear from experts on medical ethics and how these ethics relate to the individual and collective experience of the COVID-19 pandemic. Key questions will include: How do we evaluate our response to the pandemic as a nation? As a global community? What issues are emerging as a partially vaccinated society that is trying to re-open? What have we learned from this crisis and how can we codify those learnings to be better prepared in the future?
