A Consistent Influence

For more than 100 years, the LACMA has been a
constant voice for the local medical community

Medi-Cal Physicians

LACMA established the Medi-Cal Committee to better prepare safety net physicians for escalating operating expenses, the uncertainty of government reimbursement rates, and increased regulatory requirements. The Committee convenes doctors, payors, and California Medical Association to address the challenges that threaten the sustainability of physician practices in LA County neediest areas.

The Committee will be advising the LACMA Board on how to deal with the changing physician landscape that will be reacting to many healthcare dynamics, including:

  • An insurer market driven by mergers and threatening to consolidate even more power among fewer healthcare plans.
  • A growing percentage of healthcare expenditures coming from government, which currently stands at more than 50%.
  • A projection that by 2030 MedicAid is projected to consume more than 35% of states’ budgets, nearly double the 2008 percentage of spending, and about 1/2 for long-term care services.
