WHO ARE WE?

MEDICAL STUDENTS

  • Representing all years of medical education with interests in various medical specialties.
  • A culturally, ethnically diverse group of students from various backgrounds and life experiences.
  • Interested in Systems-Based Medicine, Health Policy, and Healthcare Administration

RESIDENTS & FELLOWS

  • MD & DO Physicians-in-training in ACGME & AOA accredited GME training programs
  • We come from a wide variety of specialties and we share in common our love of Organized Medicine
  • We are comprised of equally women & men and our ages for the majority of us tend to range from 25-35
  • Interested in Organized Medicine & Leadership
  • Looking for professional opportunities and career development
  • Seeking mentors both in our respective specialties (various practice types), but also leadership mentors
  • Seeking networking & social opportunities

YOUNG PHYSICIANS

  • Physicians graduated from residency and/or fellowship and in early years of practice
  • Younger than 45 years-old (LACMA definition)
  • Practicing in various specialties and practice settings

OUR GOALS FOR THE NEXT YEAR INCLUDE:

MEDICAL STUDENTS

  • Include medical students in physician social mixers.
  • Create a more robust mentorship program through a user-friendly mentorship portal.
  • Create a pathway in which medical students can acquire work-based learning opportunities through LACMA and Los Angeles County
  • Increase awareness of health policy issues and advocacy

RESIDENTS & FELLOWS

  • Creating a listserve in order to be able to communicate more effectively to residents & fellows training in Los Angeles County
  • Host successful career fairs–connecting graduating residents & fellows to future career opportunities
  • Increasing Resident & Fellow membership and increasing engaged participation
  • Identify resident & fellow leaders early in order to carry the baton of the committee and represent the voice of residents & fellows in LACMA
  • Identify unique opportunities for Collaboration, Partnerships & Programming that can offset the cost-burden associated with our section including reaching out to: Committee on Interns & Residents, Kaplan, Employers, Vendors, etc.
  • Our goal is to become a familiar presence at the city and county governance level and to become more engaged with LACMA members and LACMA leadership

YOUNG PHYSICIANS

  • Increase involvement in the Young Physician Committee
  • Work closely with medical students and resident/fellows to promote continued involvement and retention of graduating resident/fellows in LACMA
  • Improve communication with the Board via Young Physician Committee Chair and Young Physician Councilor sitting on the Board
