Exploring Opportunities in Concierge Medicine
Helping independent physicians is more than a promise, it's a pledge here at LACMA, as demonstrated at last month's Saving Private Practice Consortium and throughout the year. With an ever-growing portfolio of companies, both large and small, LACMA's partners are determined to help solo and small medical practices thrive in today's chaotic healthcare environment. I'm excited about our newest partner, Paragon Private Health, who are not just experts at helping physicians convert their practices to different types of concierge medicine models, they also help them manage the concierge program to ensure that the level of service is maintained and that patients are getting quality care. The physicians remain independent and practice care the way it should be done and patients get the better health services they deserve. If you are curious about the concierge model, here are a few answers to commonly asked questions:

Q: What is a private health model? A: The foundation of a private concierge model (aka; "concierge", "boutique", "retainer-based", "VIP" or "membership") is the direct relationship between the physician and their patients. This allows the practice to enhance the one-on-one relationship between the physician and each patient and to focus their attention and resources on providing proactive, preventive and wellness-centered health care rather than just "sick care".

Q: What are the benefits of a private health model? A: As a physician, you know all too well that the health care landscape continues to change and the challenges most practices face continue to mount. Thus, an increasing number of physicians are seeking newer models for their practice.

Benefits of a private health model include:
  • Practice proactive and preventive patient care rather than primarily "sick care"
  • Develop an individual one-on-one relationship with each patient
  • Reduce financial pressure
  • Decrease administrative responsibilities
  • Lower operating expenses
  • Increase cash flow – revenue generation and ROI
  • A balance between professional life and personal life
  • Eliminate "burn-out"
  • Improved morale
Q: What should I expect from Paragon? A: Changing practice models is a monumental decision for any physician.  Paragon works directly with each physician to ensure that their conversion to a private concierge model is both viable and sustainable.  Once Paragon and the physician have concluded that a conversion is feasible, we will work in concert to ensure a successful outcome.

Paragon has developed a systematic approach to converting medical practices with minimal disruption of the day-to-day operation of the practice and minimal distractions for the physician.

Many physicians in small practices are constantly dealing with reporting, documentation and revenue and reimbursement challenges. I encourage you to tap into athenahealth, again, our partners at last month's Consortium.  athenahealth can help you reduce no-shows rates, improve collections and they put the right information at your fingertips, at the right time, whether it's patient information, the latest clinical guidelines, or the most up-to-date requirements for quality programs. Essentially you have a team of experts to help alleviate the burdens associated with Meaningful Use, MIPS and more, so you can keep up with the pace of change, without additional work or costs. Let me know if you would like to talk with our athenahealth colleagues.

Last week I had the privilege of thanking the more than 100 physicians who attended the Consortium and I personally reached out to members, non-members, and former members to let each one that LACMA is always here to help physicians.

As we enter April and the second quarter of 2018, LACMA continues to make progress in support of solutions that directly impact physicians from across the county.
