Doctors Now on Front Lines to Give Vaccinations

"Three in 10 adults who are not currently convinced to get a COVID-19 vaccine right away say they would be more likely to get vaccinated if one was offered to them during a routine medical visit,” according to the CDC.

As one physician put it: “You can either be part of the 0.0001 percent that has a bad reaction to the vaccine or the 1.5 percent that dies from COVID, which part of the statistic do you want to be?”

Patients arrive with so many conspiracy theories that a longer conversation is necessary before vaccination starts to become a possibility.

Concerns about possible effects on fertility, which have been thoroughly debunked by a lack of documented evidence at a time when hundreds of millions are already fully vaccinated, tend to be among the latest issues that the physician hears expressed daily. Concerns about the vaccine being approved too quickly before all side effects were spotted is another common item. Some may still believe the wildly-bogus idea that vaccines contain tracking chips.

“It takes a good medical provider to make that alliance with the patient that the information you’re providing is better because it’s factual. This really is a war of fact versus alternative fact."

State Mandated Electronically Transmitted Prescriptions is Coming in 2022

In 2018, the California Legislature passed a law (AB 2789) that created a state-level mandate that all prescriptions must be transmitted electronically by January 1, 2022. The law applies to all physicians and almost all prescriptions, with very few exceptions. CMA has compiled a frequently asked questions document (members-only) to help physicians understand their requirements under the new law.

CMA is also hosting a webinar on Thursday, June 17, 2021, view here, so physicians and their staff can learn more about the electronic prescribing mandate, and how to make sure your practice is ready to go for next year. The webinar—Preparing for California's Electronic Prescribing Mandate—is free for members and their staff, and $99 for all others.

If you are unable to attend the live webinar, it will be available for on-demand viewing at cmadocs.org/webinars a few days after the live event.

Telehealth is Here to Stay, Evolve and New Poll Says Patients Want It

A significant proportion of patients want telehealth services to remain a permanent part of healthcare, newly released results from a national poll show. Sponsored by the American Psychiatric Association (APA), the findings show 82% of survey respondents have used telehealth services and 43% want to them to continue, even after the pandemic is over. Click here for more information.

We asked Dr. John Korangy, founder of CareClix, LACMA’s telehealth partner, his thoughts on the APA poll:

"This article is another good indication that the growth of telehealth is an evolving transition in healthcare delivery similar to the growth of outpatients facilities over the last few decades. We are now seeing expansion and growth into the virtual care environment. We at CareClix believe that we are well-positioned to respond to and lead this transition,” John Korangy, MD, CEO and Co-Founder of CareClix."

When Things Go Wrong: Transparency and Management of Adverse Events

During this one-hour CME* webinar, the risk management and patient safety experts at the Cooperative of American Physicians (CAP) will address basic concepts and key techniques for how to respond to complications arising from adverse events in patient care.

Key questions will include: How do we evaluate our response to the pandemic as a nation? As a global community? What issues are emerging as a partially vaccinated society that is trying to re-open? What have we learned from this crisis and how can we codify those learnings to be better prepared in the future?
