Tips for Keeping Your Identity Safe During the Holidays

The holidays are a very fun time of the year for you and your family, but how do you think your holidays will go if you happen to have your identity stolen? Probably not as joyful as you’d like. At LibertyID, we want your focus to be on the good times, so here are a few tips to keep your identity protected during the holiday season.

Shopping online from the comfort of your own home is much easier than making the trek into a busy mall and, no doubt about it, shopping online will save you some time. Here are a few straightforward tips that will keep your identity more secure while you are shopping online this holiday season.

  • Shop only from companies you know and trust. Period.
  • Check to make sure that the websites you are on are secure and legitimate. Confirming that a website is encrypted over a secure connection is easy. Your network is secure if your URL begins with https (as opposed to just http).
  • Stores will be running holiday promotions via email in the coming weeks, but so will phishing criminals. It may be tempting to click a link in an email, but if you are interested, it would be wiser to go directly to the company’s website by using a new tab/window.

Although a good deal of your shopping will be done online this year, you’ll probably end up going out for a few last-minute things. When doing so, keep these additional tips in mind.

  • Keep a watchful eye on your belongings while out in public. You can easily forget to protect your wallet with all the distractions in a busy store. Pickpockets thrive in a crowd, so before you bring personal items with you on your shopping excursion, analyze how your life would be affected if it got swiped. We recommend never carrying around your Social Security card or checkbook.
  • Always make purchases via credit rather than debit. The benefits of using a credit card include getting your money back is a less arduous process with credit than with debit because they have a greater amount of consumer protection associated with them than do debit cards.
  • Avoid non-bank-affiliated ATMs at all costs. When you use an ATM, you never know who actually handles your money or bank information, unless it is owned and operated by a legitimate bank. When you are looking for an ATM, always look for familiar banking institution emblems.

The holidays should be some of the best times of the year for you and your family, therefore it’s important to take the security of your identity and finances seriously. Although there is no way to fully prevent identity theft, you can take steps that will make you a smaller target this holiday season.

Happy Holidays from all of us at LibertyID!

Q1 Resolutions

The California Medical Association (CMA) is proud of its resolutions process because it preserves the value of each member's perspectives and experience and empowers physicians to shape the ever-changing health care landscape and ensure that CMA is speaking with its members’ voices in its advocacy.

From internal governance to ambitious statewide advocacy, every policy is crafted, reviewed and approved by the dedicated team of physician leaders that make up CMA's organizational structure - and you can help!

The testimony period will be open through December 4, 2019, at cmadocs.org/resolutions. After testimony closes, the Council or Subcommittee to which each resolution has been assigned will consider it. Your testimony and feedback will be considered by the Councils as they make policy recommendations.

Physician Retreats

Don’t forget LACMA is subsidizing half the cost for physician 3 ½ day retreats at the luxurious Four Seasons Resort in Westlake Village. If you are interested, let me know! Dr. David Aizuss, CMA immediate past president had this to say:

“I found the Signature Retreat nothing short of life-changing! The nutrition education, meetings with registered dieticians, food preparation and hands-on learning in the Wellness Kitchen is nothing less than superb. Four Seasons executed every aspect of the Signature Retreat with their usual panache, attention to detail, and attempt to achieve perfection in every minute spent by participants. The fitness and circuit training, as well as body analysis and the electives available, are worth the price of admission. The outdoor hikes while overly challenging in some cases left all with a sense of exhilaration. Four Seasons accommodations are always outstanding and the level of service at the Four Seasons Westlake Village is such a pleasure to receive. I have been gushing about the experience to everyone I tell about it as well as online and with friends and family. I absolutely would do it again and again and again. Every physician should take the time for themselves and their spouse/partner to help elevate their lives with a weekend spent at the Signature Retreat!”

As a medical professional, your time and money are valuable. That is why one of our top priorities is to address the unnecessary risk that is present in the vast majority of physicians’ financial plans.

This webinar will walk through some of the latest advanced estate and tax strategies and how they work along some of the methods that have been around for ages.

With the one constant in life being change, it's critical for you, as a medical professional, to have a team of professionals who look after your balance sheet to optimize the protection and growth of your most valuable financial assets.

Most people would not go to their primary care doctor for open heart surgery, so why should you trust your unique planning needs to a generalist?
