This week, we're continuing our look at the issue of physician burnout and how we can assist in alleviating the pressures that doctors face in their work life. In recent news, the World Health Organization recognized the serious effects of burnout from chronic workplace stress, while asserting that burnout levels among doctors are at new highs, far worse than among the general population. Adjustment to HIPAA Data Breach Penalties The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that it's adjusting the way it penalizes violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) by shifting its focus to health firms' "level of culpability." Organizations that took necessary measures to comply with HIPAA but were still breached will be hit with smaller fines than those that knowingly violated HIPAA.
