Statement from LACMA President Dr. Omer Deen

LACMA stands with the San Gabriel Valley Asian American community as they deal with a senseless tragedy.  On behalf of our board of directors and nearly 7,000 members, we support the work of Congresswoman Judy Chu and her legislation to close loopholes in universal background checks to decrease the number of those who shouldn’t have guns.

We also send prayers to our newest group partners, Allied Pacific IPA and Garfield Medical Center as they, too, have been impacted by this violence during the Lunar New Year celebrations.  It is for these reasons LACMA is hosting a critical panel discussion on gun violence at next month’s burnout symposium at the UCLA Luskin Conference Center.  It is my hope that all physicians and healthcare leaders attend.  Here is the link to register:  www.stophealthcareburnout.com

Safety Net Coalition

Kudos to Dr. Hector Flores and Dr. Omer Deen for supporting the Los Angeles County Safety Net Coalition, led by L.A. Care CEO John Baackes to address the issue of physician pay parity. The local safety coalition comprised of multiple stakeholders representing community clinics, private practices, reimbursement experts, and LACMA is now transitioning to a statewide effort to raise dollars for Medi-Cal providers. Stay tuned for more details as the fight for reimbursement balance continues.

Welcome Back, Sheila Hoyer

I wanted to welcome back Sheila Hoyer to the LACMA team after a few years of being on “hiatus”! Sheila will oversee organizational management, schedules, jury duty, and much, much more. Welcome back, Sheila!
