I hope that all members had a moment to share with friends and family this past weekend. Now that life as we know it is back to the “new normal” there is some good news to share: The passage of Proposition 56 (tobacco tax) has resulted in an additional $2.2 billion made available for physicians caring for the Medical-Cal population in the form of supplemental payments in both fee for service and Medi-Cal managed care. CMA will share the latest updates on services available for supplemental payments and payment amounts by CPT codes during this week's webinar on Wednesday, December 4th at 12:15 PST. Beating the Epidemic

The opioid epidemic has destroyed many lives and poses severe challenges for physicians and the overall healthcare industry. To make matters worse, recent legislation was too ambiguous and puts outpatients and providers at risk. The new law AB 714 requires that naloxone can be prescribed to a patient as an opioid reversal drug in specific circumstances. The new law also allows physicians to be educated about how to talk to patients about opioid reversal treatments and prescribe naloxone when patient s are prescribed an opioid or benzodiazepine medication. Los Angeles Athletic Club - Member Benefits

As we engage more members across the county, we are always looking for strategic partners to help our members. For those members in or near downtown Los Angeles, LACMA has a new partnership with the Los Angeles Athletic Club. The flyer below explains the benefits for LACMA members. Also, don’t forget we have a fantastic partnership with the Four Seasons Resort in Westlake Village, especially our 3 ½ day retreats designed for physicians. If you would like to schedule a retreat for 2020, please let me know! LACMA subsidizes 50% of the cost.

Excited to share that LACMA will kick off our new partnership with AltaMed Health Services next Monday at the Sheraton Hotel in Cerritos as we welcome 150 new LACMA/CMA members thanks to a multi-year agreement. We will work closely with AltaMed to address health equity, disparities when it comes to access to quality care, social determinants of health, physician wellness and more. Revenues Will Help Address Physician Shortage, Increase Access to Care

Physicians for a Healthy California (PHC) announced more than $38 million in CalMedForce awards to support medical training and residency programs across the state and to help grow the physician workforce.

The funding, generated by the voter-approved Proposition 56 tobacco tax in 2016, will pay for 198 residency positions in 89 Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs at hospitals and clinics, with an emphasis on programs serving medically underserved groups and communities.

Learn how these taxes are expanding the health care workforce.
