CMA’s Janus Norman Named CCTA President, Rocco Named Interim Head of CMA Government Relations

CMA Senior Vice President of Government Relations and Political Operations Janus Norman will become the California Cable and Telecommunications Association’s (CCTA) new President, starting April 25th.

CCTA is the industry’s largest state cable and telecommunications association, leading the development of video, broadband and communications policy in California.

“For the last eight and a half years, Janus Norman has positioned CMA as a force in the health care advocacy space. His service, passion and dedication to California’s physicians has been a large reason for the unrivalled success of our legislative and political advocacy programs,” said CMA CEO Dustin Corcoran. “The legacy that Janus leaves behind at CMA will be felt for years to come.”

Janice Rocco, CMA Vice President of Health Care Access and Coverage, will serve as interim Senior Vice President of Government Relations and Political Operations. Rocco joined CMA early last year and has been working on issues related to health care access, coverage and reform, as well as addressing matters related to the pandemic. Prior to joining CMA, she was the consultant to the Senate Special Committee on Pandemic Emergency Response, spent nine years as the Deputy Insurance Commissioner, and worked for over a decade as a Chief of Staff in the State Assembly, after working for Planned Parenthood at the beginning of her career.

National Public Safety Telecommunications Week

NPSTW is observed every second week in April to recognize and celebrate the work of telecommunicators helping to save millions of lives every day. If it were not for the 911 operators’ flawlessly doing their jobs, countless lives would have been lost due to untimely assistance. So, throughout this week, we honor and thank those invisible telecommunicators who have continued to serve in this demanding profession.

Work Life Balance Should be Life’s Work in Balance

A recent survey by CompHealth’s parent company, CHG Healthcare, found the number one factor new physicians are looking for in a job is work-life balance. This was followed closely by work schedule and location. What makes this more interesting is that CompHealth asked a similar question in a CompHealth survey back in 2018. Work-life balance was number one on the list as well. However, in 2018, 63% of physicians listed it as their number one factor, this year that number jumped up to 85%.

Achieving work-life balance is not just good for physicians it is also good for their patients and the facilities they work. Even before the pandemic provider burnout was seen as an issue that caused adverse patient reactions. Add in COVID-19 with physician burnout at an all-time high and negative patient impact is even higher.

For as many as 50% of physicians, burnout symptoms of cynicism, exhaustion, and reduced effectiveness overshadow their personal and professional lives. Like the coronavirus, burnout has reached global epidemic levels. Responses by academic institutions, government, and private industry to systemically address the burnout epidemic are woefully inadequate.
