Public Health Week: April 2-6, 2018! March 23, 2018 Public Health 866 LA County is gearing up for National Public Health Week, April 2nd to 6th! This year's theme, "Changing Our Future Together," recognizes the importance of building partnerships -- across county departments, academic institutions, community partners and residents – to ensure that all County residents have the opportunities and resources needed for optimal health and well-being. The Department of Public Health (DPH) is excited to host a series of events that highlight our commitments to collective actions that support a diverse workforce, thriving communities and healthy families. Our shared commitment to a diverse healthy workforce: In collaboration with DPH, Department of Mental Health (DMH), and community partners, Charles Drew University will announce the expansion of Pathways to Health, an academic and community internship initiative to build youth leaders and career pathways in the health field for underrepresented youth. Our shared commitment to promote healthy workplaces and employee well-being: The Department of Human Resources and DPH will host an Employee Wellness Expo to engage colleagues in shared learning opportunities so that the County's greatest resource - our employees - have the tools needed to support wellness. Our shared commitment to honor the diverse cultures and experiences of those we serve: DMH and DPH will bring together County staff and community partners to learn from community health workers on how to integrate cultural respect in all our direct service efforts. Our commitment to prepare residents to support each other during unanticipated emergencies: The Emergency Preparedness and Response Division is mobilizing County residents to respond during natural disasters and emergencies. Emergency preparedness and hands only CPR trainings will be provided in each of the supervisorial districts Our commitment to aligning our work to ensure that everyone has the resources and opportunities to achieve optimal health: DPH will convene partners to identify innovative strategies for addressing high rates of infant mortality impacting Black, Native American and Native Hawaiian families.
