The 8th annual Patient Care Foundation Los Angeles Healthcare Awards was held at the Four Season Hotel in Beverly Hills last Friday. With nearly 200 attendees including LACMA leaders, members, honorees, sponsors and partners, we raised money to provide scholarships to eight medical students in the Los Angeles area. I wish to thank the LACMA staff for putting on a great show, those board members who took the time to attend, and Dr. Troy Elander for his leadership and passion for helping medical students and those organizations that made the night extra special. View Photo Album Here Japanese Delegation Visit Earlier this week, LACMA board members Dr. Jerry Abraham, Dr. Stephanie Booth, Dr. Anna Yap, and Dr. David Hopp visited the Consulate General’s residence at the reception honoring victims of the atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the Japanese physicians who care for them. Consul General Akira Muto and his wife welcomed LACMA leaders into their official residence along with the Hiroshima Prefectural Medical Association, Nagasaki Medical Association, the Radiation Effects Research Foundation, the Hiroshima International Council for Health Care of the Radiation-exposed (HICARE), the American Society of Hiroshima-Nagasaki A-Bomb Survivors, as well as many government officials from the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Prefectures and the Japanese government. Last night, LACMA hosted a reception with the Hiroshima Prefectural Medical Association as the prestigious organization made a brief presentation on the effects of radiation on the human body and also touched on progress relative to the care of aging atomic bomb survivors. Thank you to Dr. Susan Reynolds for her unwavering support of this group and for continuing to shed light on this incredibly important topic. Prop 56 Update With so much on the line for physicians when it comes to reimbursement, CMA and LACMA are constantly looking for ways to share funding options and Proposition 56 was and remains a game-changer: The California Health Care, Research and Prevention Tobacco Tax Act of 2016 created new revenues dedicated to the Medi-Cal program. Physicians receive supplemental payments in both fee-for-service and Medi-Cal managed care when providing Medi-Cal services under certain CPT codes. So, what’s new? CMA will discuss the services eligible for FY 2019-2020 supplemental payments, payment amounts by CPT code, tips on ensuring your practice receives the full amount of eligible funds and the distribution timelines of the FY 18-19 funds. The webinar will also cover what's new for FY 2019-2020 and beyond and how CMA's advocacy to increase access to care for Medi-Cal patients has resulted in an additional $2.2 billion in supplemental payments.
