LA Healthcare Awards

The end of 2019 is winding down with a flurry of activity.

The 8th annual Patient Care Foundation Los Angeles Healthcare Awards was held at the Four Season Hotel in Beverly Hills last Friday. With nearly 200 attendees including LACMA leaders, members, honorees, sponsors and partners, we raised money to provide scholarships to eight medical students in the Los Angeles area.

I wish to thank the LACMA staff for putting on a great show, those board members who took the time to attend, and Dr. Troy Elander for his leadership and passion for helping medical students and those organizations that made the night extra special.

Japanese Delegation Visit

Earlier this week, LACMA board members Dr. Jerry Abraham, Dr. Stephanie Booth, Dr. Anna Yap, and Dr. David Hopp visited the Consulate General’s residence at the reception honoring victims of the atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the Japanese physicians who care for them.

Consul General Akira Muto and his wife welcomed LACMA leaders into their official residence along with the Hiroshima Prefectural Medical Association, Nagasaki Medical Association, the Radiation Effects Research Foundation, the Hiroshima International Council for Health Care of the Radiation-exposed (HICARE), the American Society of Hiroshima-Nagasaki A-Bomb Survivors, as well as many government officials from the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Prefectures and the Japanese government.

Last night, LACMA hosted a reception with the Hiroshima Prefectural Medical Association as the prestigious organization made a brief presentation on the effects of radiation on the human body and also touched on progress relative to the care of aging atomic bomb survivors. Thank you to Dr. Susan Reynolds for her unwavering support of this group and for continuing to shed light on this incredibly important topic.

Prop 56 Update

With so much on the line for physicians when it comes to reimbursement, CMA and LACMA are constantly looking for ways to share funding options and Proposition 56 was and remains a game-changer: The California Health Care, Research and Prevention Tobacco Tax Act of 2016 created new revenues dedicated to the Medi-Cal program. Physicians receive supplemental payments in both fee-for-service and Medi-Cal managed care when providing Medi-Cal services under certain CPT codes.

So, what’s new? CMA will discuss the services eligible for FY 2019-2020 supplemental payments, payment amounts by CPT code, tips on ensuring your practice receives the full amount of eligible funds and the distribution timelines of the FY 18-19 funds. The webinar will also cover what's new for FY 2019-2020 and beyond and how CMA's advocacy to increase access to care for Medi-Cal patients has resulted in an additional $2.2 billion in supplemental payments. Presenters will also discuss Prop. 56 implementations for FY 2019-2020, new funding for value-based care, developmental and trauma screening and more money for loan repayment.

Presenters:

Jodi Black, Vice President, CMA Center for Economic Services and Janus Norman, Senior Vice President and Chief Lobbyist, CMA Center for Government Relations and Political Operations

Webinar Time: 12:15 PM - 1:15 PM

Helping Practices to Grow

What started as a LACMA preferred partner relationship for solo and small practices have blossomed into a CMA partnership to help practices across the state grow. Patients today are taking control of their healthcare choices more than ever before, demanding greater convenience and easy access to information. Three in four people have gone online to find out about a doctor or dentist, and more than 57 percent do so regularly. Attracting and retaining patients in this environment requires improving each digital touchpoint for patients, both before and after their visit.

Join PatientPop to learn how technology can create a better experience across the patient journey, and how every practice can benefit along the way.

You'll learn:

How patients choose their providers in this era of consumerization

Insights on evolving patient demands

How technology can help attract, satisfy and retain patients

Physician Retreats

Don’t forget LACMA is subsidizing half the cost for physician 3 ½ day retreats at the luxurious Four Seasons Resort in Westlake Village. If you are interested, let me know! Dr. David Aizuss, CMA immediate past president had this to say:

“I found the Signature Retreat nothing short of life-changing! The nutrition education, meetings with registered dieticians, food preparation and hands-on learning in the Wellness Kitchen is nothing less than superb. Four Seasons executed every aspect of the Signature Retreat with their usual panache, attention to detail, and attempt to achieve perfection in every minute spent by participants. The fitness and circuit training, as well as body analysis and the electives available, are worth the price of admission. The outdoor hikes while overly challenging in some cases left all with a sense of exhilaration. Four Seasons accommodations are always outstanding and the level of service at the Four Seasons Westlake Village is such a pleasure to receive. I have been gushing about the experience to everyone I tell about it as well as online and with friends and family. I absolutely would do it again and again and again. Every physician should take the time for themselves and their spouse/partner to help elevate their lives with a weekend spent at the Signature Retreat!”

As a medical professional, your time and money are valuable. That is why one of our top priorities is to address the unnecessary risk that is present in the vast majority of physicians’ financial plans.

This webinar will walk through some of the latest advanced estate and tax strategies and how they work along some of the methods that have been around for ages.

With the one constant in life being change, it's critical for you, as a medical professional, to have a team of professionals who look after your balance sheet to optimize the protection and growth of your most valuable financial assets.

Most people would not go to their primary care doctor for open heart surgery, so why should you trust your unique planning needs to a generalist?
