What a Night it Was

On June 21st, LACMA hosted a historic evening as we held the 147th annual Installation of President and Officers, honoring C. Freeman, MD, MBA, FAPA, as the new president of LACMA and the first African American female president of the organization. The evening was filled with joy and pride as Dr. Freeman formally begins her presidency. Poignant comments and personal stories were shared and attendees had the privilege of witnessing a heartfelt moment as Dr. Thomas Freeman, C. Freeman's father, led the prayer.I wanted to extend a thanks to our LACMA board for attending, district leaders, committee chairs, friends, colleagues and sponsors, who truly made the night possible because of their generous contributions. Companies like the Cooperative of American Physicians (CAP), Charles R. Drew University, Mercer, Wells Fargo, California Hospital Medical Center, City of Hope, The Doctors Company, Vituity, Pfizer, 1st Century Bank, RPM Mortgage and Southern California Psychiatric Society all gave generously.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank statewide leaders like Dr. David Aizuss, President-Elect of CMA, Dr. Lee Snook, Speaker of the CMA House of Delegates and the CMA executive leaders who attended such as Lance Lewis, Chief Operating Officer, Alecia Sanchez, Senior Vice President and Mike Steenburgh, Vice President. Our partnership with CMA has never been stronger and LACMA will continue to make significant progress relative to physician, group and organizational value.

As I continue to make my rounds to healthcare organizations from across Los Angeles County, I'd like to share with membership that we are having conversations with several organizations such as Advanced Medical Management, Healthcare Partners, PIH Health, CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, Huntington Hospital, USC Keck Medicine, AltaMed Health Services, Los Angeles County Department of Health and Department of Public Health, to name a few. As I always say, it takes more than a village to generate renewed interest in joining LACMA. If any members have contacts, or insights into any of these organizations, please share them with me!

One example of a physician champion is Dr. Hector Flores. Almost immediately following my presentation to the LACMA board of directors last week, Dr. Flores reached out to lend his voice as we have dialogue with Dr. Christina Ghaly with the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. Dr. Flores also offered to help with Healthcare Partners and thanks to his support, we are engaging PIH Health and Dr. Leo Lopez, Chief Medical Officer. I share this example of true leadership in case any of you want to help in any way as we push to grow interest in membership across several medical models.

Be on the lookout this summer for our first campaign to reach individual physician offices to share benefits as well as we pivot to our third Saving Private Practice Consortium in early 2019!

Thank you! Gustavo Friederichsen Chief Executive Officer Los Angeles County Medical Association "If it matters to our LACMA members, it matters to me.
